Propably all of you have heard about Greece's national drink - ouzo. It can be produced only in Greece and ouzo from the island of Lesvos is considered to be the best one. But it is produced and consumed all over the Greece. Ouzo is a mixture of alcohol with may different herbs, spices and other ingredience, such anise, mint, wintergreen, helzenuts, corainder or cloves. Ouzo is usually served neat with a glass of water, so that we can choose wheather we want to drink it by itself or dissolved in water. When we mix ouzo with water it turns milky white. The secret of that ‘ouzo effect' is the essential oil of anise (athenole) that transform into white crystals. |
